The incinerator should be a modern waste disposal unit, designed to bum medical waste in a clean and environmentally efficient manner. It 
should employ a temperature based logic control system to provide optimum control of the operating conditions and incorporate a high capacity 
thermal oxidizing secondary chamber. It should be designed to retain the exhaust gases, for at least 2 seconds to ensure the unit’s effective 
destruction of the combustion products.

The primary combustion chamber is the main structure of the incinerator, fabricated from mild steel plate and stiffened with rolled steel 
sections. It is carried from the floor level on a substantial steel support frame. Internally the shell is lined with calcium silicate 
insulation and a hot face combination of super duty brickwork or high strength castable.  
The primary combustion chamber must ensure minimum exit temperature is not less than 850°C.

combustion must have:

b) Infections Waste Disposal

– Segregation: Infections waste disposal shall be segregated appropriately and packed in particular containers and delivered to particular storage. The segregation, packing and delivery shall be operated appropriately at each room such as outpatient, operation theater, blood collection room and dialysis room.

– Precaution: Infections waste shall not be place in other containers on the way of segregation, packing and delivery.

– Storage: Infections waste shall be stored at the storage in hospital site temporarily until infections waste is incinerated.

– Incinerator:

 

It is designed to sterilize medical waste , reduce its volume , and render its components unrecognizable all in one fully enclosed and automated system.

It combines direct heated steam , high pressure and shredding to treat infectious materials.

The contaminated waste is loaded into the upper stainless steel chamber where a heavy-duty shredder reduces the waste into small pieces. Using gravity, the processed material falls into the treatment chamber where every piece is steam heated to 134 and pressurized to 3 to bar for 20 minutes. The operating conditions are continuously monitored and validated to achieve complete sterilization.

The 60 minutes average duration process cycle is totally automated. A computerized system monitors the process and automatically prints a report with the essential sterilizing parameters at the end of the cycle for accurate record keeping.

The capacity is between 500 to 600 kg/cy.h or more.

Treatment cycle:

1- Loading ; the contaminated waste is automatically -loaded into the chamber of the unit

2-Shredding; the heavy-duty shredder cut the material into small pieces and features a unique reversing system to avoid jamming

3-Heat; saturated pressurized steam raises the temperature to 134 C and the pressure to 3 bar

4-Sterilization; the sterilization comes into direct contact with the shredding material (134 c , 3 bar) for 20 minutes

5-Cooling; temperature is lowered to 80 C by spraying cool water onto Double jacket of the treatment vessel, simultaneously, the unit returns to ambient pressure

6-Draining; the steam is condensed to water and discharged with the cooling water to the sanitary sewer system

7-vacuum; the remaining residual steam is vented out through a vacuum pump

8-Unloading; a digital signal informs the operator that all safe operating conditions have been met

The condition unlocks the unit and allows gravity unloading of the treated waste into a container

• Sufficient forced air inflow and airflow and fuel supply controls to ensure an exhaust gas oxygen content range of 6-12% at all times. 
• Hot face refractory concrete-ceramic suitable for thermal shock up to 1400 Celsius and abrasion. Minimum thickness 150mm. 
• Cold face refractory lining of calcium silicate or superior material, minimum thickness 100mm. 
• Refractory lining of all the ducts shall be done with refractory castings. Superior quality ceramic wool shall be used at all hot duct flanges and expansion joints
• An electrically powered fan forced air supply, with the capacity for variation by the operator.
• One or more fuel burners designed to use diesel fuel type 2 (vehicle standard) equipped with a spark igniter.  
• A digital thermometer with connected to an electronic datalogger. The thermometer shall be located on the chamber wall away from the fuel burner.
A heat exchanger to pre-heat air destined for the primary chamber is not compulsory but recommended. 
The combustion air systems and fans shall be designed to ensure high combustion efficiency and avoid a reducing (corrosive) atmosphere, incomplete burnout of the flue gases and related problems. It should also be possible to heat the primary air from 10°C to approximately 145°C, depending on the waste composition and moisture content.
“The incinerator shall be designed and equipped to be installed, commissioned and operated in such a way as to prevent emissions into the air giving rise to significant ground-level air pollution; in particular, exhaust gases shall be discharged in a controlled fashion by means of a stack the height of which is calculated in such a way as to safeguard human health and the environment.

The requirements for a unit are as follows:

• 10% heptyl (unsymmetrical dimethylhydrazine) water solution,
• heptyl (unsymmetrical dimethylhydrazine) vapour with 0.8 to 1.0 kg/m³ concentration,
• 10% azotic (nitric) acid water solution,
• azotic (nitric) acid vapour with concentration up to 1.1 kg/m³;
2. neutralization method: thermal decomposition;
3. neutralization temperature: +800˚C to +1200˚C;
4. performance:
• vapour capacity: 70 to 200 m³/h,
• water solution capacity: 50 to 500 l/h;
5. inlet pressure: up to 2 bars;
6. automatic control system;
